This policy explains what information BookieFinder collects when you use this website, why, and what you can do about it. It is written to be read, not skimmed, so it is shorter than most.
Who we are. The website at bookiefinder.co.uk is operated by Green Media, Abraham Mendez Chumaceiro 03, Willemstad, Curaçao. We are the data controller for the information described here. You can contact us about privacy at admin@bookieFinder [dot] com.
The short version
We collect very little. You can use every part of this site without creating an account, giving your name or accepting tracking cookies. The information we do process is listed in full below.
Information we collect and why
Searching for shops
When you type a postcode or place name into the shop finder, the text you type is sent to our server and then to one of two location services so that it can be turned into map coordinates: Postcodes.io for postcodes, and Nominatim (run by the OpenStreetMap Foundation) for place names. Neither receives your name or any account details. We cache the coordinates for a postcode or town so that the next person searching for it does not trigger a new lookup; we do not keep a record of who searched for what.
If you click “Use my location” and your browser asks for permission, your approximate coordinates are sent to our server once to find nearby shops. They are not stored.
Reporting a problem with a listing
The report form asks only for a description of the problem. It does not ask for your name or email address. We store the text you write, which shop it relates to, and the time. If you choose to include contact details in the text, we use them only to follow up on your report. Reports are kept while the shop is listed so that we can show a verification history for it.
Following a bookmaker link
Some links to bookmakers go through an address on our site beginning /go/ so that we can be paid a commission (see our affiliate disclosure). When you follow one, we record the bookmaker, the offer if there was one, the page on our site you came from, and the time. We do not store your IP address or any identifier in this log. Once you arrive at the bookmaker, its own privacy policy applies; the bookmaker may be able to tell that you arrived from BookieFinder.
Preventing abuse
To stop automated misuse of the shop finder and report form, we keep a hashed version of your IP address for up to one minute. The hash cannot be reversed to recover the address.
Server logs
Our hosting provider keeps standard web-server logs that include the IP address, browser type, pages requested and time of each request. These are kept for 365 days and used for security and to keep the site running.
Cookies and analytics
The BookieFinder site itself sets no advertising or tracking cookies. [Choose one: “We do not use any analytics service.” / “We use an analytics tool to count visits. It is configured to [anonymise IP addresses / not use cookies / …].” Delete the other.]
Legal basis
Under UK data protection law we need a legal basis for processing personal data. For the shop finder, error reports and abuse prevention that basis is our legitimate interest in running an accurate, secure information service. For affiliate click records it is our legitimate interest in being paid for referrals. Nothing on this site is processed on the basis of consent except your browser’s location permission, which you control.
Who we share information with
We do not sell or rent personal information. The only third parties that receive data are those named above: Postcodes.io and OpenStreetMap Nominatim for location lookups, our hosting provider for server logs, and bookmakers when you follow a link to them. None of these receive data beyond what is described.
Where data is stored
Our servers are located in Canada. Postcodes.io and Nominatim are operated from within the United Kingdom and the European Union respectively.
How long we keep information
- Search text: not kept. Cached coordinates for a postcode or town: up to 30 days.
- Error reports: while the shop is listed, then deleted within 12 months.
- Affiliate click records: 24 months, for reconciliation with bookmaker payments.
- Hashed IP addresses for rate limiting: one minute.

Your rights
You have the right to ask what personal data we hold about you, to have it corrected or deleted, to object to our processing it, and to receive a copy in a portable form. Because we collect so little, in most cases the honest answer will be that we hold nothing that identifies you. To make a request, email admin@bookieFinder [dot] com. We will respond within one month.
If you are unhappy with how we have handled your data you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113.
Children
This site is for people aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18.
Changes to this policy
When we change this policy we update the date below and, for significant changes, add a note to the site’s footer for 30 days.
