BoyleSports

BoyleSports is Ireland’s largest independent bookmaker and the newest of the six shop brands covered by BookieFinder to trade in Great Britain. Its British shops are operated by Boylesports (UK) Limited, licensed by the Gambling Commission since February 2019. The estate is small and concentrated in the Midlands and the north of England.

Shops on BookieFinder

BookieFinder does not yet list individual BoyleSports shops. Our shop data comes from each bookmaker’s official locator and the BoyleSports locator has not yet been collected. When it has been run and checked, every shop will be added with its published hours and a collection date.

The Gambling Commission’s public register listed 89 licensed premises for Boylesports (UK) Limited when we checked on 21 September 2026. Grouped by licensing authority, the largest clusters were Coventry (5 premises), Sandwell (4), and three each in Birmingham, Derby, Dudley, Hull, Manchester and Wakefield. There are no BoyleSports premises listed in Scotland or Wales, and none in London. Premises licences are not exactly the same as trading shops, but at this size the two figures are usually close.

The company also has a large shop estate in the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland; those shops are licensed under different regimes and are outside the scope of this profile.

Company background

BoyleSports was founded by John Boyle, who opened his first shop in Markethill, County Armagh, in 1982 before building the business from its base in Dundalk, County Louth. It grew mainly by acquiring independent shops across Ireland and entered the British high street in 2019 through the purchase of the Wilf Gilbert chain in the Midlands, which explains the concentration of premises around Coventry and the Black Country. Further small acquisitions followed.

BoyleSports shops in Great Britain operate under the same rules as every other licensed betting shop: four gaming machines at most, £2 maximum stake per machine play, Think 25 age policy, and participation in the GamStop Betting Shops self-exclusion scheme.
